I'm not a sound engineer or a professional producer.. The purpose of this page is only to share with you some files and tutorials, which helped me in solving some dark phases.

I hope it helps ;-)

[ UNDERSTANDING SOUND ]

One of the first questions which comes spontaneous when you start to produce a track is: "how can I create at best the sounds I have in my mind?"
It's always hard to give it a perfect answer. I think there are three points to argue:
  1. Understanding the basics of sound. Maybe this is the most important thing, because if you know how a general sound is structured and influenced by a synthesizer, you can have an idea of how it should be constructed.
There are some issues about this in the web, but I've found very interesting the related chapter in the JP-8000 manual. Clicking THIS LINK you can download the scanned pages in .pdf format. Obviously the manual refers to the JP-8000 synthesizer, but the explanation is applicable to other machines too.
  2. Learn what controls actually do. This point seems obvious but if you really know what all of the controls in your synthesizers serve to, all will be clearer. Most of the controls doesn't change from a machine to another.

I've written down this two points because there are some people who still continue to ask me how can they obtain a specific sound without knowing which knobs they have to set up.

[ UNDERSTANDING SOUND ]

Here are three pdf files, which guide beginners to learn how a basic Trance track is constructed. The tutorial refers to Reason, but I think that it could be good also for those of you who use a different software.
